——————————————————————————————————————————————

The Japanese Popstars are very good musicians, but fashionistas? Despite being given the honour of designing their own Nike trainer, they advise bowl cut haircuts, trowelling on the slap and pairing socks and sandals – god knows what horror stories the Northern Irish trio would conjure up if they had their own makeover show like Gok Wan. Thankfully, this Saturday Decky Hedrock, Gary Curran, and Gareth Donoghue are more interested in what you look dancing rather than naked, and simply can’t wait to make their Spectrum debut. They took a few moments from winning awards and praise for their hard hitting and party-starting electro to drop some hints about what Brixton’ll be treated to this weekend.

What can people expect from your set at the show?
JP: Hopefully a good time :) with a lot of energy and a strong flow.

Will you be playing any new tracks or remixes?
JP: There could be a few new tracks thrown in, we are always working on the show to try and develop it and make room for the new music. If we can get a few things off the table and we can squeeze them in then we will.

Who else on the bill are are you most excited about seeing?
JP: South Central are on the bill, nice guys plus they always deliver a great set. Be nice to get the chance to see them again :)

If you could collaborate with anyone else on the line up who would it be and in what context?
JP: Maybe this discussion will take place over a few drinks. It might go down the usual remix swap chitty chat, especially in this day and age where we are all struggling musicians.

Describe your sound to people who might not be familiar with it.
JP: Taps in to a bit of everything from tech, techno, house… Lots of builds, and the odd bit of euphoria and nastiness thrown in for good measure.

Are there any exciting acts coming out of Ireland that people should be listening out for?
JP: Loads. Psycatron, Screendeath, Phil Kieran, Matador.

What do you have lined up for the next 6 months?
JP: Few remixes to round off then back to writing new material and hopefully drop some EP’s in the new year, plus constantly developing the show and also cramming in the gigs.

What are your top tips for 2012 – fashion/sounds/activities etc.
JP: Manscara, guy liner, step and bowl hair cuts – plus open toe sandals with socks.

You’re playing a live set, do you prefer that to DJing? How do they differ?
JP: We enjoy it all. DJing we can play other producer’s music that we like, live shows we stick to our own music and remixes – plus there is much more going on technically. More things can go wrong too. A series of technical difficulties is always on the cards

You released your own type of Nike trainers – any more coming out soon?
JP: Nike ID, I think Decky might have a whack at designing another pair.

If you could see anyone wearing ‘your’ trainers who would it be and why?
JP: Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, he’s an ancient astronaut hypothesis scholar who often appears on the History Channel. He is currently the best thing on TV, and has an amazing tan.
