We’re ecstatic to be have Kavsrave on the bill for Chew The Fat! this week

Wearing his R’n'B influences unabashedly, it only seemed right we quizzed the Tighten Up label head and Numbers alumni on the questions that matter- his all-time top 5 R’nB tracks that have influenced his production.

1. J. Holiday – Bed

This is probably a contender for my favourite tune of all time. They got everything spot on with this song, from the way Los da Mystro produced the tune, the lyrics that the dream wrote and how J. Holiday sung it. Everything to me is in perfect cohesion. And those DRUMS!

2. Bobby Valentino – Slow Down

This is the tune that started my love affair with Indian percussion, and many peoples’ brief love affair with Bobby V. I still can’t understand why he’s not as big anymore, he’s releasing some really good music.

3. The Dream – Purple Kisses

The Dream, the team of him Tricky Stewart and Los Da Mystro are three people that I aspire to be musically. Seriously, if you go back through some of your best RnB tunes of the last decade, their names will pop on production and writing credits more than anyone else (Bar Timbo of course). Well at least they do for me anyway. And this is my favourite song of his to date!

4. Donnell Jones – All Her Love

It was a tough choice between this and “U know what’s up” when i was picking my favourite tune from this man, but this just pipped it for me. It’s because of the use of that indian udu drum sound instead of a snare, and if your familiar with my work you’ll notice that i paid homage to that on the Ginuwine refix i done a while ago.

5. Ryan Leslie – Addiction

This does exactly what is says on the tin, it’s a bloody addictive tune. Firstly i love it from a listening point of view, but mostly i love it from the production/writing side of it. it’s a tune that sticks out for me as it proves that a good hook is the key ingredient to a good tune. It’s simplicity at it’s greatest!

and one extra one:

6. Justin Timberlake – My Love

I couldn’t leave out Timbaland! Everyone knows he’s been a massive inspiration to me, and countless others!
