Tittsworth interview and exclusive new track to download
Tittsworth feat The Federation – Drunk as Fu*k (Top Billin Remx) (MediaFire)
The king of bmore and club, Tittsworth counts being Kanye West’s tour DJ amongst his many recent accomplishments. With a rare London appearance at Chew the Fat this month, we chatted with him about his globe-trotting adventures.
Plant Music also kindly dropped us this exclusive new track from Titt’s latest EP which has been remixed by Finland’s awesome Top Billin crew, whose blog is one of our current favourites. The EP also has the original track, plus four more slamming remixes from DJ Craze, Stretch Armstrong, Meterhead and Say Wut, and you can buy it from iTunes now!
It’s an unusual one – is Tittsworth your real name? And what’s with the Jesse appearing all of a sudden?
Yes! It’s my real surname and I’m told it is in fact Old English. I’m told means Jesse Birds’worth?
Yes, there are some tits of the feathered variety. Many people will know you primarily as a bmore artist. What others sounds can we expect to find rocking your productions and DJ sets?
There’s a lot of interesting music out there right now so I try to incorporate as much of it as I can. I really dig bassline, fidget, minimal, house, of course club… so much to name, a lot of which is outside of traditional genre boundaries. Pretty much anything with a good beat with the occasional guilty pleasure! I mix really fast and hard and I’ve been known to knock faders off the mixer.
Your recent album had some high calibre guests like Kid Sister and DJ Assault, plus you’ve remixed
the likes of Grace Jones and Kanye West. Who’d you most like to work if you had a completely free
choice?
Well early on I really loved Michael Jackson and the Fat Boys, they were the first musical purchases I made and I would still be thrilled (no pun intended) to remix them! On the original tip, I would love do a track with Scarface, Andre 3000, Bun B, Goldie and Rob Playford. Too many to name them all!
From the looks of MySpace, your life seems to be one long international tour. Which five items can’t
you do without in your suitcase and why?
- Bubble bath! I know, not really thugged out, but after being on the road for a long time, little things help!
- Unlocked mobile w/ swappable Sim card cuz I gotta get my mobile Tweet on. I gotta figure out this GSM thing so I can stop carrying so many of these damn SIM cards around though!
- Granola bars. Sometimes you get a dodgy promoter that forgets you need to eat more than once a day. Sometimes you sleep thru the airline meal service, sometimes you feel like a nut.
- Laptop (by which I mean porn). I’m not gonna lie, tons of media on the laptop to kill the occasional… boredom. This includes episodes of The Office and various shows and movies of various ratings!
- My desensitisation kit! Sometimes it’s (TOO) easy to fall asleep on the road. Sometimes, with jetlag and all, it’s really difficult. I carry a kit of things to help cut me out of the world. This includes earplugs, eye mask, Tylenol PM, neck pillow and even a white noise wave to loop on my laptop for that late night tinnitus! Come on stems cells, poppa needs a new set of ears…
PM Dawn, Shirley Bassey, Phil Collins (probably). Do you think bmore ever went a bit too far in its bootlegging? What’s the cheesiest remix that you’ve shamelessly thrown into the mix to get a party started?
Phil Collins definitely, we released a remix on T&A by KW Griff! I don’t know if we’ve gone too far… I mean when I was into the genre before its internet boom, it still had really cheesy remixes like The Muppets, SpongeBob Squarepants, etc. One of my early claims to fame is a remix of a local ghetto car commercial which kinda blew up and got me on TV with local celebrities. I’m definitely known for guilty pleasures… ‘Take My Breath Away’ by Berlin recently comes to mind (Iceman: You can be my wingman any time!)
Having recently discovered the Migraine Skank we’re in the search of more novelty dances. We’ve heard Bmore had one called the SpongeBob – can you teach us the moves? We promise to get everyone doing it at The Arches during your set if you do…
Baltimore definitely has its share of dances… me, I’m only coordinated enough to DJ and maybe occasionally butterfly. There’s a TON of hilarious ‘SpongeBob Baltimore Dance’ footage on YouTube!
