The blogs are full of remixers trying to make a name for themselves by putting their unique stamp on a recent big track or classic. Many of them are, frankly, rubbish. So it takes a whole lot of self-belief, skill, patience and disregard for copyright laws to knock up an entire bootleg album.  We bring together the current big three, all downloadable for free, for you to make your mind up.  Are the wholes more than the sum of their parts or are they simply a mismatched recipe that leaves a bad taste in the mouth?

‘Feed the Animals’ by Girl Talk AKA Pennsylvanian producer, Greg Willis, consists almost entirely of samples with everyone from Rage Against the Machine and Megadeth to Genesis and The Police thrown into the mix. Available via a Radiohead-esque pay what you want scheme, it was originally recorded as one continuous piece of music which you can still get if you can stretch to $5. Jadiohead by Minty Fresh Beats pits Obama favourite, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z,  against indie stadium rockers Radiohead, an unlikely pairing till you consider that Jay-Z headlined Glastonbury in 2008 and Radiohead are doing it this year. Fresh Minty Beats for 2010?

The Very Best are tropical/electro producers Radioclit (after some earnest thought we reckon this is a reference to the volume control) and vocalist Esau Mwamwaya, who Radioclit met when he sold them a bike in a junk shop in Clapton. Mixing African vocals and rhythm with Western pop and dance it’s as zeitgesit as Clapton soon will be now nobody can afford to live in Shoreditch.
