I predict a riot – The Clash, Renegade Soundwave and fidget house

There’s been growing anxiety from the media, government and police ahead of this week’s G20 summit at Docklands and the marches which are taking place today in protest against corporate greed, poverty, inequality and the environment.

To do our bit to ease the situation we thought we’d post this clip of The Clash singing ‘White Riot’ from ‘Rude Boy’, their 1980 documentry/film which is set against a backdrop of racial tension, unemployment and social unrest. Ring any bells?

While we’re on the subject of life’s eternal circles…

…we thought we’d also use the opportunity to post one of our favourite old hardcore/breaks tunes which samples ‘White Riot’, Renegade Soundwave’s 1989 classic ‘The Phantom’. Well worth tracking down on vinyl – that strange archaic object you can see in the video.

And finally, this is what my friend reckons fidget sounds like after I let him copy some tracks off my memory stick last week. We all know it’s true.
