The Fat! Club Mix 071
Stepping up for a guest mix with us this week is London trio Felon whose debut single Isla was released by us earlier this month, after huge support from taste-makers Eton Messy over the summer months.
We caught up with Felon last week, to talk about the origins of the project and what they have up their sleeves for the rest of the 2013.
Firstly, congrats on the reception for your debut single for Fat! Records. The guys at Eton Messy and later on The Sound You Need have been really instrumental in pushing Isla. Has it surprised you at all, how well the single has been received?
It’s been amazing seeing Isla go down so well, especially after working on it pretty much every day throughout summer. We’ve obviously been following Eton messy for quite some time and have been impressed with every single one of their uploads, so to be featured on their channel was incredible….they definitely pioneer the most interesting electronic music atm. The Sound You Need has such a huge following that when they asked if they could feature Isla we were pretty ecstatic! Massive thanks to both of them.
How did the idea for the Felon project between you 3 guys originally come about?
Felon is Archie Ward, myself George Renwick and my close friend James Levey. Me and James worked on several projects together last year at my place in Ladbroke Grove and has some really good vibes going on. Archie, who’d been mates with James since they both started DJing together, came in to collaborate on day and the three of us started playing with a summery, deep sketch of his that later became ‘Isla’. The whole process just worked really well to be honest, so we came with the idea of joining forces to become Felon, while we were out playing in Ibiza earlier on during the summer.
Are there any artists in particular who have really inspired you and the project over the past six months?
We’re always listening to new music and new sounds together, but probably for this project so far the likes of Martin Ikin, Tube & Berger, MK, Bodhi & Blonde, to name just a few.
Talk us through the mix for us, any distinct theme at all behind it?
The Fat! Mix theme was a simple one… Just an hour of the finest pumping house music.
No FX and no funny business… We hope you enjoy it!
Finally, what can we expect from you guys over the next few months, any remixes or more solo material in the works?
We’re always in the studio and have loads more Felon originals on the way, which we’re psyched about. In fact, there’s a Remix EP for ‘Isla’ dropping in December, so look out for that one!
We have just finished a remix of Parra For Cuva’s ‘Unfold’, signed by Marlon Hoffstadt for his label Well Done, that should be out soon. Also we’d like to mention that Marlon is one of the guy featured on the ‘Isla Remix EP’ under his new alias, Tender Games, which we think you guys put out for free last week, so people should definitely hit that up.
We’re playing out and DJing a lot too dates you can catch on our facebook page. Lots and lots going on…
We did indeed… A wicked remix from Tender Games!
It’s been really positive to hear about some new tunes as well, keep working and thanks for taking the time to talk to us as well.
Thanks a lot!
