It’s been a whirlwind year for 18 year old Manchester based producer Pále, having only made the switch from producing drum n bass to his unmistakable brand of spacey future garage a mere 11 months ago. Since then he’s already made a name for himself with a remix for Maribou State and his utterly stunning bootleg refix of Night Time by the XX.
This 3 track EP sees Pále embarking on a musical journey through bassy pastures, the intricate, boxy rhythms of Damn Social bounce excitingly around the track before diving into a woozy release, laden with heavily warped vocals and a pounding low end register. Meanwhile, Fille tones the vibes up a notch with tropical synth stabs combined with shuffling 2-step beats and more of those carefully crafted reverby atmospherics glazed over the whole lot. It’s a track that wonderfully switches from being an eyes rolled back, all encompassing, ambient haze into a straight up dancefloor murderer. Acting as an excellent introduction to the EP, Why’d You Even Say displays Pále’s typical, everywhere at once, yet at no place in particular beats. With each fresh listen brings the discovery of a new click or hat, and that’s before you’ve even started paying attention to the juddering bass exhalations and seamlessly interwoven vocal cut from which the song takes its name.
