We were first introduced to the captivating sounds of the Sheffield based producer known as Simba, through Skream’s weekly Radio 1 show, after he premiered this EPs standout track Bejewelled, back in August. Since then, we’ve been working closely with the illusive Yorkshire-man to craft and hone his sound. The result is his four track debut for Fat! Records.
It really is all about the top lines on Bejewelled. It’s becoming rarer and rarer these days to find such a simple example of back-to-basics club music that before anything else, simply puts a smile on your face. Bejewelled does just that. And more. It’s no nonsense fun and the true essence of what Fat! Records has always been about. Eton Messy are on the case too!
Second track Don’t Look recently got the thumbs up from Shadow Child, and not hard to see why. Simba’s genius percussive elements really nod to the likes of Justin Martin and Nick Monaco from the dirtybird camp.
Stepping up the pace on next track I’m Tired, straddling another contagious groove and another slant in Simba’s arsenal.
Also receiving heavy support from Skream is the EPs closing track Resonant. Simba really turning up the energy in the final throws with a stomping drum track.
An impressive debut from newcomer Simba here. We welcome him to the Fat! Records family and look forward to watching him grow as a producer over the next few years. You should too!
