Keyboard Masher @ The Queen of Hoxton, Thursday 9th April

    keyboard-masher-flyer1

Before Good Friday comes Even Better Thursday. No work the next day, the smell of spring in the air and this year, the sound of sweet disco too.

Our favourite musicologists from ace site Keyboard Masher are taking over The Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch where they’ll be playing some of the tracks they post online each week plus a load more from their frankly ridiculously record collections.

Joinng them is very special guest selecter and re-edit king, DJ Loud E, who’ll be jetting over from Amsterdam specially while support upstairs comes from house crew, Everything Must Go.

Check Loud E’s brand new mix.

    KEYBOARD MASHER

Once upon a time, disco was shrouded in arcane mystery. Classic records lay unmolested in the dusty boxes of charity shops and its secret were known only to a wise order of bearded men.

Then came the internet… and everything changed.

Keyboard Masher was set up to enable them to explore their shared love of good music with like-minded individuals. Serving up a healthy dose of disco, they also dig deep into electro boogie, cosmic rock, obscure film scores, library sessions, 70’s roots reggae & afro-pop, new beat, italo and good old acid house chuggers.

After promoting and playing over the last 15 years at Lift (Blue Note), Come Shake The Whole and 6ft Stereo, theirs is a life-long mission to spread an undying passion for the kind of joyous, classic, life-affirming music which they have termed simply as ‘Whack-out’!

With a series of parties springing up over two years ago out of the popularity of their weekly online postings of tracks, re-edits, sleeve art and mixes, there past guests have included such massive musical brains as Jolyon Green from Lowlife, Cafe Del Mar’s Phil Mison, Mancunian folk-hero Moonboots and Sean Johnson from Hardway Brothers.

To celebrate the launch of Keyboard Masher the party, the boys are proud to welcome over Dutch maestro DJ Loud-E.

Having collected disco records for ten years, Loud E has been playing them around Europe for the last three following a series of mixes on I-F’s CBS radio which unveiled his killer collection of rare euro-disco and obscurities.  January also saw the release of ‘Loudified’ on Ambassador’s Reception, a CD compilation of his most sought after re-edits, previously only available on vinyl.

Also look out for the first re-edit release from Keyboard Masher in April.

    EVERYTHING MUST GO

With a Pete Tong Essential New Tune, eleven record labels and three gold swimming stars between them, Catzmuzik’s Dan Cat, Playtime’s Big Daddy and Chew the Fat’s Hey Joe are a force to be reckoned with.

Having played alongside such luminaries as Mike Monday, Marc Romboy, Claude Von Stroke and Jack Beats to name just a few, their new joint venture, Everything Must Go, is an all out assault of everything house and nu-disco.

Throwing in every sub-genre you can name, from hyphy and tropical to deep and minimal, plus a few they’ve invented in the studio the night before, it’s a soundtrack aimed squarely at moving all your molecules, from your soles to your follicles.

And in the unlikely event that they fail to do this, you’re probably related to the rubber brick that was fished off the bottom of a swimming pool (while wearing pyjamas) all those years ago.
