What was the first tune you ever bought?

Can't remember - it would have been some little pop 7". Although the first Hip Hop 12's I bought would have been by Hashim and Afrika Bambaataa I think. And that's what set me off...

The Body Clap seems like a long time ago.....what have you been up to since?

That night ran for 2 years, hosted by myself and Boy 8-Bit. We had such a laugh doing it, and had some amazing guests, but it became harder to run as we got busier with other stuff, so we decided to call it a day. I started working on The Black Ghosts with Simon Lord, and that has been pretty much taking up all my time since then. We recorded and released our album, and have been DJing loads - not just in the UK but loads of trips to the US as well as Japan and Australia. And that takes us right up to today...

Do you feel that your sound has refined itself in that time?

Not really "refined" itself, as it's always shifting around. I can't just stick to one specific genre endlessly. Playing the same thing year after year. I just don't understand that. I am always searching out new music and hearing stuff that excites me - taking new stuff on board and trying evolve basically. That's a constant process, and I can't imagine ever NOT doing that. So in a way I guess that is a form of refining, but not to a specific end.

Can you walk us through what a typical day in the studio consists of for you?

Periods of creativity and industry, broken up by the odd bout of distraction, boredom and frustration, with much improvement seen after the intake of coffee.

What is the best gig you've ever done and why?

Hmm. Hard to pick one. There have been loads of awesome ones. But two that stand out were both in Tokyo. Once as Touché in '99, along with Jacques LuCont and Fatboy Slim, and more recently as The Black Ghosts at AgeHa, which is one of the best clubs I have ever been to. The crowds and atmosphere in both cases were amazing. But it really is hard to disregard all the other classics!
