You’ve recently had some time away from your usual globe trotting DJ schedule.
How are you finding it getting back into the swing of things?

Well that’s a big question actually.I see my dj ing schedule as one of the many things that may have contributed to me being diagnosed with Leukaemia. I felt that getting ill was very much to do with the way I lived. So travelling every weekend and some week days wasn’t very conducive to a healthy lifestyle. I think there are definitely ways of doing it, but it caught up with me. Last year I had the residency at WeLove in Ibiza and then the Chew the Fat! is 10 tour straight after. That on top of some other bad habits didn’t do me any good. So with this in mind have had to re think my dj ing career as a whole.

On top of this the time I then spent in hospital was also at a time when I was at a cross roads with my dj ing anway. More and more music was only being released digitally and more so promoted in digital formats. I have never been a fan of playing cds, or looking at a computer screen to find my music. It’s not what it’s about for me. I think its called being old skool, or even just getting old. But selecting records, playing vinyl has always been a passion for me and doing it any other has no feeling to me. So a combination of wanting to look after myself, keeping myself healthy, vinyl being fazed out by labels, clubs, promoters alike and not being a producer. I feel it’s the right time take a back seat with the dj ing and really look at the some of the exciting new talent that’s coming through. We have plenty of that on the www.tfabookings.com agency.

I love dj ing, the buzz you get from it and playing the tunes you love, I mean how self indulgent can you be and get paid for it. So in regards of getting back into the swing of it, it’s been a nice and easy so far … My first gig back was at We Love Chew the Fat! at Space , Ibiza… in September. My second gig is at The End before it closes, our last ever Chew the Fat! at The End. You can’t ask for better gigs than those…

In overseeing the Fat! empire, what takes up the majority of your time?

Travelling round London, what a mare I seem to spend my whole time on a bus, on a tube. I’m getting a bike at the end of the month so hoping that will be a much nicer way to go.

Can you let us in on any of the new talent to grace either the night or the record label in the next few months?

Well you should all know about Foamo, he’s the man and will be a heavy player for Chew the Fat! next year. Hijack, more wicked production from Bournemouth. He’s playing at the our last party at The End with Sebastian, so if you haven’t seen or heard him come check him out. Reso and Baobinga both smashed Chew the Fat! in October so really looking forward to hearing all their new releases next year.. I have to give a big mention about our very own Lord. Lord Anthony the most entertaining dj I know, played at my stag night, my wifes’ hen night and has a tune for just about every occasion. You’ll see him at a Christmas party near you soon..;-) http://www.myspace.com/lord_ant_b Label wise you got to check out Merka’s new album, Gellas new material loads of other wicked new artists on the remix tip who are all worth checking out. www.thefatclub.com

With The End closing, what have you got planned for Chew The Fat! in 2009?   Well we will be at Plan B in Brixton at 00.01am in 2009, which will be fun…. Looking forward to that especially now that Plan b has two rooms.. We’re also looking at offers we have had for Chew the Fat! nothing confirmed yet but am sure we will have a party somewhere in February.

What’s been your happiest memory from being at The End?

I think the very first time I walked into the club on our very first night at The End, everyone who worked there made a point of welcoming me to the club. That made such a difference to many of the other clubs I have worked at. It’s a memory I will always remember. All the other memories blend in to one happy blur. In your opinion, what DJ has played the best set at a Fat! event? Me of course, I have been a resident at the night for 11 years and hope that in one of those many shows I have had the place jumpin.

And what’s been the single biggest, crowd going absolutely ape shit reaction to a tune you’ve ever seen down there?

Zinc ‘138 trek’ , well its one I can remember ;-)

Can you give us a run down of your top five tunes right now?

Merka ‘Back Home’ Fat! Mystery Jets ‘Half in Love’ Foamo remix Hijack ‘For The people remix’ Gella ‘Chi Ka Chi Koo’ Hans Zimmer ‘True Romance Sound Track’

And finally……is there anywhere you’d rather be right now?

Yep, back in Bali where I have just spent my honeymoon X
