You've been busy remixing a lot of artists work recently, if you could work with any artist of your choice who would it be and why? (they can be dead or alive!)
I've always been heavily into seventies and eighties funk so it would have to be James Brown. His tracks are some of the best grooves known to man - no wonder he's the most sampled artist ever.
Tell us a little about how you started getting in to writing music and djing, does your family have a musical background?
There are no musicians in my family but my dad influenced me a lot with his collection of funk, soul and early house music. He bought me a set of decks and a mixer when I was thirteen and I was DJing in clubs by the time I was seventeen.
Producing music was something I started for fun, making bootlegs and edits for sets. The first HiJack EP was not originally intended for release - just some tracks I knocked together for a mix tape.
Bournemouth is renowned for being abit of a grannys holiday retreat, despite this Aquasky, Trevor Loveys and yourself all grew up there so its obviously got some things going for it, is there anyone else we should watch out for from around there?
There are a few of us producing together in Bournemouth; Daniel Carro, Shab Ruffcut, Flinch and Jaksaw are all releasing tracks on my label, Jack Union. Daniel has been a part of HiJack for the last couple of years but is now concentrating on his own productions - keep an eye out for his upcoming tracks.
Tell us what we can expect from your set for Chew The Fat! @ The End?
A heavy, jackin set full of energy and surprise. You'll hear a few cheeky bootlegs and edits, and lots of unreleased HiJack tracks too. Check out the November mix above!
You've a busy djing schedule over the next few months, if you could play any venue/festival/club in the world where would it be and why?
Sensation White in the Amsterdam Arena looks incredible - playing to 40,000 people would be nuts. Club-wise, it would be Panorama Bar in Berlin. The crowd is insane!
You've firmly established yourself in the jackin house scene, but would you ever consider working alongside a dubstep or breaks producer?
I'm up for working with anyone who makes good music. There are some quality producers in dubstep and breaks, so why not?
How do you think your perception of other peoples music has changed since you've become a successful artist, do you tend to take much inspiration from others or concentrate more on your own ideas?
I have more respect for artists who have a distinctive sound, which is harder now with so many people releasing music. You have to have a style of your own, and I think it's important to keep taking risks with your tracks.
In terms of inspiration, I've always been into US jackin house and a lot of influence has come from American producers like DJ Sneak and Derrick Carter. In the UK, Dave Taylor was a big influence - his early Solid Groove and Switch productions with Trevor Loveys broke the house music mould.
And finally...
Your on your way to a gig abroad when someone Hi Jack's the plane! Which of your least favourite cuts of vinyl would you throw at the hijacker to knock him out and save the day!?
I don't actually play vinyl so I'd have to throw my memory stick at him and hope for the best!
