LISTEN TO HIS LATEST MIX

It's not very often that talent comes through as raw and undiluted as FOAMO, but here at Fat! we think that this 21 year old has a bright future ahead of him. Already championed by none other than Radio 1's KISSY SELL OUT, who has played his huge debut single 'Moving It Over Here' repeatedly on his show, this unassuming young pup from the sleepy town of HIgh Wycombe rinses out some of the most down right rude basslines we've heard in the Fat! office for a long time!

Firstly, I have to ask - why the name Foamo?

I've had the name with me since I was a young boy, I really don't remember why!

Your sound takes in elements of electro, fidget house, nu rave and a plethora of other genres. Do you ever find yourself with a catch all term for what you play?

Nah. I'm not too fussed about trying to group music into all these sub-genres.

In your ears, what characteristics define a Foamo track?

Erm, lotsa energy, I usually work on tunes in the early hours of the morning when I'm high on caffeine.

What about other genres that you aren't usually associated with - do you find yourself drawing inspiration from them?

Yeh, well It was jungle/drum n bass that really got me into DJing and producing when I was about 13. I also used to listen to a lot of garage, grime, hip hop, and dubstep.

I definitely feel the tracks I make today have been influenced by these genres... I'll always love tracks with nasty bass.

You've recently had some of your tracks played on Kissy Sell Out's Radio 1 show. Do you find being in touch with him as been beneficial?

Yeh, been a big fan of Kissy's since I first saw him in 2006, he was the first DJ I saw that got me into this area of music really. He's well safe aswell, always willing to help or give advice.

It's wicked feeling to have your favourite DJs spinning your tracks, something I wouldn't've even dreamt about less than a year ago.

Do you think that with the increase in genres being coined and explored within an online environment that the life cycles of some of these genres are getting shorter and shorter?

Wow, proper essay question.

When you're not DJing or producing, what can be found on your stereo?

Dance music's always on my stereo, im always listening to mixes or new tunes...

But if I'm not listening to dance stuff, my favourite artists are people like Burial, Portishead, Massive Attack, Radiohead, and randomly, The Cure!

Or sometimes I'll put something well random on, in the hope of hearing potential sample material.

Your schedule takes you to a far few destinations - do you find the crowds that you are playing to differ from city-to-city?

Yeh, it's been a wicked experience the last few months, done gigs all round the UK and Europe, and they're always completely different crowds.

I do love playing the gigs abroad though, they're always crazy and up for it, and you meet some proper random people ha

Do you have any special tracks that you're looking forward to playing at Chew The Fat?

Yeah, it's a great opportunity to play some of my unfinished stuff, if it gets people bouncing, I'll know it's worth finishing!

What's the most calming place you've ever been to?

Cant remember last time I experienced calmness. I live above 2 fast food places in the centre of town, so it's far from calmness, and only go on holidays to cities or party holidays ha

Finally.....Greenpeace or the World Wildlife Fund and why?

Erm, I suppose I prefer pandas to hippies
