EXCLUSIVE 30HZ INTERVIEW
 

With his sonic chicanery and downright rude basslines, it's not hard to see to why 30Hz is top of his game. In demand as both DJ and producer, 2007's album Electric Sheep gave an intimate snapshot of the musical stylings of the king of precision, and his forthcoming Body Snatchers LP with Baobinga will serve only to cement that position further.

Ahead of his touching down to violate the End's cavernous soundsystem for Chew The Fat!, the man known as Ginz gives us a little of his time......


How has 2008 been treating you so far?

I spent all of January in Australia working on my skin cancer and hugging various antipodean fauna and all of February locked in a studio with Baobinga finishing our "The Body Snatchers" album developing an acute case of cabin fever. I've still been dating everything 2007, so it would seem I'm not quite ready to admit its over.

Your known for your techno productions as well as straight up breaks tunes. How do you view the relationship between the two styles?

My techno project (emptyset), is in some ways is the opposite of 30Hz in the sense that its about being restrained at every opportunity whereas the 30Hz stuff is about lack of restraint at every opportunity. At the same time, I think both bleed into each, so sometimes a drop gets snuck into the techno and sometimes a sense of nihilistic coldness sneaks into 30Hz.

Do you go about producing different genres in the same way?

Yes I strip down to the nude and rub myself down in coconut oil whilst making chimpanzee noises. When I feel properly oiled I start producing genres. Last week alone I created Acid Skiffle, Progressive Tribal Bluegrass and Jesuscore.

Does production still excite you as much as it did when you first started?

It's the thing that always has and continues to excite me the most in life in general.

2008 is shaping up to be a good year for artist albums - how do you feel your profile has changed since Electric Sheep was released?

My nose seems to be a bit shapelier and I now have a stronger chin.

You MySpace blog is a change from the usual "I'm playing here and here" style that is usually found. What inspire such indepth musings?

I tend to only really go for intense conversation or complete nonsense. I would feel guilty if I inflicted any reader with inane mundanity. I don't think there is any amount of clever writing that could make airports and hotels interesting to read about:

"I got on an airplane and I flew to place x. Person y picked me up, we exchanged witty banter was then dropped off at a hotel where I bathed and stole kit kat's from the mini bar. ..."

See, you already want to claw your eyeballs out.

What have we got to look forward to from yourself in the coming months?

There is The Body Snatchers "Feeling good, Looking nice, and Smelling Right" LP on Passenger Records, and a 30Hz, "Electric Sheep Remixed" LP on Lot49. On the (emptyset) front we just had the next single cut, Doxa EP that is for our label Caravan and will be the first single for our upcoming multimedia album.
