This weekend BBC Radio One hijacked Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh, as queen of Friday night Annie Mac and local hero Alan Hostage stepped up for a two hour session featuring some of the biggest, baddest and bassiest tracks about. Broadcasting live from Sugarbeat (complete with Scottish chants and all) the first live Essential Mix of 2010 ‘does exactly what it say on the tin’. Essential listening, though we did need a little quiet time after putting it on the stereo first thing Monday morning. Hostage’s ‘Valhalla’ is out now on Nighshifters.
