Hot City’s Unknown to the Unknown label’s internet presence seems to accurately mirror the kind of music that they’re putting out. Eccentric aesthetics and unconventional, almost purposefully user un-friendly layouts launch the kind of music that bleeps and chirps at you from every direction. Harbouring releases from the likes of Marcus Mixx, NGUZUNGUZU, DJ Q and LOL Boys, navigating the tunes that UTTU are putting out is like surfing a wave made out of jelly, totally off your face. Wonky synths and tongue in cheek samples are in abundance, it’s because of labels like UTTU that we have to resort to using over generalised terms like “bass music” when talking about a lot of dance records coming out at the moment.
Disorientating and confusing, yet utterly addictive grooves from London resident, Palace.
Remember bassline? Well it’s back, and it’s absolutely massive! DJ Q injecting steady 2-step beats with hefty amounts of reverse bass on his ‘Junglist EP’.
I have absolutely no clue at all as to what’s going on here, but it’s making me want to dance. Total madness courtesy of DJ Stingray.
So, to summarise quite basically; if you’re an avid fan of ostentatious dancing and thinking to yourself “what the fuck am I listening to?!”, Unknown to the Unknown has an awful lot to offer you!
