Pick O’ Week
It’s Friday again, and that means two things: 1) It’s almost the weekend 2) It’s Pick O’ Week time.
First up is WhilkandMisky and their track Wing Clipper. This London based sibling duo are brand spanking new and have brand spanking tracks to listen to. Not much info has emerged as of yet, partly due to their love of mystery (“Open your minds and ears, shut your eyes and your fears and be hypnotised”) but with promise of plenty more tracks and live shows, Whilkandmisky are ones to watch. Download Wing Clipper below.
Right, bear with me on this one: After Rustie released the second track from his surprise single Triadzz/Slasherr, I re-listened to his cracking essential mix from last year which included a brilliant piece of music by Clams Casino, entitled I’m God. Our next track is a remix by a Canadian, P-80 (who’s name incidentally, is also a type of lubricant), who’s footwork remix, although not a sound I’m usually party to, is brilliant. Whilst retaining all the catchy vocals and melody of the original, P-80 throws around some silly good beats that I just can’t help but tap my foot to. Listen and download for free below.
The next track comes from Josh Butler’s Can See You EP, released on Monday. Initially not intended for release, Can See You was snapped up by the owner of the label Definition Music when it was played out by Darius Syrossian, at the Berlin club Water Gate, after it tore apart the dance floor. A harder, darker and punchier release than his prior release, the smash hit that was Got a Feeling, there can be no doubt that Can See You is a corker.
Finally, not exactly brand spanking new, but news that débruit is heading to town to play at Kartel’s African Music meets Western Electronica at Brixton in a couple of weeks got me re-listening to the Parisian’s brilliant fusion production. This one comes from his latest album From the Horizon and is entitled Akoula. Good stuff.
