Dillon Francis – by DILLONFRANCIS
How did you get into the genre “moombahton”?
I got into Moombahton because of Munchi. Munchi sent me a message on Soundcloud saying that we remixed the same song. I then went onto his soundcloud and started listening to all his music. Once I heard what he had done, I was blown away. I remember thinking, ‘Holy shit this is the next big thing!’ I didn’t know what it was at the time, but it was Moombahton.
What would you say is the best thing about “Moombahton” in your opinion?
The room for the groove in Moombahton lets you do a lot with how much you can do with the tempo. There’s a lot more room to put things in, and it is just way different than producing anything at 130 or 140bpm.
Hearing your new track “IDGAFOS”, what was your main influence behind this track?
My main influence is a lot of pop music combined with Skrillex and Doctor P.
What producer are you really feeling at this moment in time? Who would you look out for 2012?
At the moment, I’m really into Brown and Gammon. He just released on Circus records which is Flux Pavilion’s label and the release is amazing. Definitely need to keep an eye out for him. I was blown away by the track.
What has been the best gig you have played at this year and why?
My favorite gig this year was the HARD Haunted Mansion Pre-Party I played at Terminal 5 in New York. The crowd was great and the line-up was one of the best line-ups I’ve gotten to be a part of. The line-up included artists like Joker, Skream, Benga and Gesaffelstein. It was a really great event to be a part of!
What are your feelings on your playing styles?! Is variety important to include in your set when you play out live?
Yes, Variety is definitely an important factor for keeping the crowd into it. I like playing all different styles while I play in order to keep the energy up.
Your tune “Westside” has had huge recognition from people such as, Major Lazor, Sinden and Steve Aoki, how does that make you feel?
All warm and fuzzy inside! I’m really happy that such an old tune can be carried for so long since it was made 2 years ago and then had proper release on Mad Decent.
Are you working on anything new at the moment?
I am constantly working on remixes and making new material and doing collaborations with a lot of different people
Is there anybody you would like to collaborate with? If so, who would it be and why?!
“I would love to collaborate with Calvin Harris. I love all his music and he’s just been a motivating inspiration for a lot of my music. His music is “poppy” and still grabs everyone’s attention.”
What would you prefer to do, play live or spend more time in the studio?
I do love playing live, but I would like to spend some more time in the studio to make more new music. I haven’t been able to do that a lot lately since I’ve been on the road so much.
So, what has the rest of 2011 got in store for you, and have you got any big plans for 2012?
For the rest of 2011, I have a bunch of remixes that will be released in Novemeber. In 2012, I’ll have a February EP release on Oslo which is Skrillex’s label. I’m also currently working on a bunch of collaborations for the upcoming months.
