The Fat! Club Introduces #2
Our second introducing feature will be shining a light on the Bristol based trio of producers who’ve been causing a real stir down in the west country for their multiform, per-mutating output, which caught the ear of Shifting Peaks as part of their recent Nasty Rips & Shifting Peaks compilation, which saw light at the start of February.
We are of course talking about Sly-One, whose hard to pin down sound, leans towards the tougher side of the British underground spectrum, with recent comparisons already linking them to Dark Sky and My Nu Leng.
Since they first appeared on the Bristol radar, via Eton Messy‘s Free 1000 Likes EP this time last year with their track Number 2. Since then they’ve become a full fledged member of Eton Messy’s management and booking arm, representing the brand via their recent showcases all over the UK.
A few months back they put out a free track exclusively via XLR8R; Beats Like Them draws heavily from the sort of percussion we’ve been accustomed to from the likes of Addison Groove and Pearson Sound over the past couple of years. Sampling 2Pac‘s I’m Losin It, with layered 808 kicks and claps and arpt’d top lines, it packs a serious punch. Heard over to XLR8R for a free download.
They’ve recently been picked up as residents by Bristol’s weekly Fiftyone27 and they put together a fantastic mixtape for them recently, which you can check out below.
Eton Messy have curated a line up and will be joining Chew The Fat! for a showcase in Room 2 at Cable this month (Facebook Event | RA Event), with Sly-One on the line up alongside AppleBottom, TCTS and The Transmission Collective. Advance tickets are on sale now @ £12.50 here.
In the run up to the night Sly-One will be giving away a free 1000 Likes EP (if they get to 1000 likes before hand that is), and we need your help to get to that total.
