And the Chew the Fat! DJ competition winner is… (Plus best of the rest)
… the superb Frogs in Socks.
They’re from Manchester, their re-edit of Empire of the Sun has been played on Radio One and their mix of tropical, jazz and minimal flavoured house rocks, building from Jesse Rose’s Moondog sampling ‘Night at the Dogs’ through Solo, Riva Starr and Zodiac Cartel, to end on their own remix of Two Lone Swordsmen and MIA.
Empire of the Sun – We are the People (Frogs in Socks Remix) (MediaFire)
Frogs in Socks – Slumfrog Millionaires winning mix (MediaFire)
They’ll be warming up for Foamo, Raffertie, Zinc, Rusko and Caspa at Chew the Fat! on May 29th.
Tracklist and our best of the rest after the jump…
We had loads of great mixes, some from bedroom DJs, others from those already running their own nights. Thanks to everyone who entered.
These are our pick of the rest, not just based on boring old music ability, but on that certain something else we couldn’t helped be moved by…
BEST HAND DRAWN COVER
Eddie G-Raves got all Blue Peter taking us back to the days of making mix-tapes at school for girls we fancied. Biro written inlay, check. Cartoonish cover illustration, check. Judicious use of any stickers lying about, check. We’re flattered Eddie but we just don’t think of you like that…
MOST GRATUITOUS USE OF SEMI-NAKED GIRLS
This was the back cover to Unknown Soldier’s dubstep/grime/funky mix. Paul says that if she had actually entered a mix, it would have won.
BEST LOGO / HIGHWAYMAN BASED NAME
Dick Turpin is a super-tight dubstep DJ I’ve played with a couple of times. We love his new logo and are still waiting for the tracks he’s promised us for the blog.
BEST ‘WORLD DANCE’ STYLE PACKAGING
Eddie Kruga sent us three mixes. The box to this one brought back misty-eyed nostalgic memories of the massive tape-packs you used to get in jungle record shops.
MOST SHAMELESS COVER

SJ Andrews, you know who you are…
BEST GARAGE MEGAMIX
What Snufkin lacked in presentation he made up for with the Pay As U Go UK garage megamix he included in his selection. A definite favourite amongst the Trailer Media girls we work with.
MOST RANDOM OTHER PROMO
Not even an actual entry. Just a band press shot of three lads. In front of toilet cubicles. Promoting a single called ‘Sit and Listen’. From the looks on their faces they’re either dying to drop one or wondering who thought this was a good idea…

So can we have that garage megamix one? looks good
